Michelle Wilz, CPA

Michelle began her career in audit at a global accounting and advisory firm, then joined its national technical accounting advisory practice. She advanced from senior associate to senior manager, advising executives and management teams at public and private companies and serving on national-practice committees that included members of the accounting firm’s executive leadership.

During her public-accounting career, Michelle also developed extensive private-client reporting experience. She prepared hundreds of personal financial statements for individuals and families whose financial lives included real estate, closely held businesses, trusts, concentrated and private investments, significant liabilities, and multigenerational wealth.

Her broader advisory work included public-company reporting, going-public readiness, acquisitions, complex debt and equity transactions, and implementation of major accounting standards.

After public accounting, Michelle moved into finance leadership at a Montana-based outdoor technology company. Her work in that role has included leading technical accounting within the finance function, overseeing financial reporting under U.S. generally accepted accounting principles, supporting acquisition-related accounting, and improving the systems and processes underlying revenue, equity, and sales-tax reporting.

Aurora is built on the strengths that have defined Michelle’s career: technical accounting expertise, professional judgment, and the ability to translate complex financial information into coherent, rigorous reporting.

Michelle is a licensed Montana Certified Public Accountant, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and president of the Bozeman chapter of the Montana Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Michelle and her husband live in Bozeman, where they are slowly making their first home their own with an English bulldog, two horses, and two cats in the mix. Outside the office, she is happiest riding, hiking, and exploring new places in Montana and beyond.
